Brakes are an essential aspect of your vehicle. Proper maintenance and care of your brakes should be a top priority for your car care.
You should also have a qualified technician inspect your brake system at least once a year. A qualified technician can ensure that your brake shoes aren’t sticking and that your calipers slides are functioning properly. Brake shoes allow the vehicle to stop when the brake pedal is pressed when you have drum brakes. If you have disc brakes the caliper slides are what allow your vehicle to stop and are just as important as brake shoes.
During a visual brake inspection a qualified mechanic can also ensure that all your brake lines and hoses are working properly. If a brake line is rusted out then the fluid is not traveling as it should which could cause the brakes to malfunction. A visual inspection from a technician can ensure that these aspects of your vehicle are working properly and that your vehicle will in fact stop when the brake pedal is pressed.
One of the most important parts of the braking system is the brake fluid. Brake fluid is used to transfer force into pressure, which helps to amplify braking force. As you can imagine, this is very important! Brake fluid should be flushed every one to two years. By flushing your brake fluid you are ensuring that your braking system is free of debris and corrosion. Brake fluid naturally absorbs moisture; excess moisture can cause failure to other aspects of the braking system. By scheduling your brake fluid flush every one to two years you can save big money by avoiding brake caliper replacements and damage to your master cylinder. Both of these are essential to your ability to stop in traffic. If one of these were to fail, your vehicle may not be able to stop when needed or in severe cases catch fire! Call Rackley’s Performance and Auto today to schedule your Brake Fluid Flush!
There are a few things to look for that are tale tale signs of a problem in your brake system
- If you notice shaking while you are braking you could have warped rotors. This means you will need to have your rotors and your brake pads replaced.
- If you notice that one of your tire rims seems much dirty than the others that could indicate excessive brake dust. Which means there may be an issue with the brake system on that wheel. By having a qualified mechanic inspect this right away, it can prevent further damage to the braking system.
- You may also notice an audible noise such as squealing or grinding. A squealing noise due to a squeal tap indicator. By visiting a qualified auto mechanic as soon as you hear this noise you can avoid having to replace your entire brake system. If you hear grinding you need to get to the auto repair shop immediately. Grinding sounds indicate that metal is hitting more metal and there is no brake surface left. By having no brake surface you vehicle may not be able to stop when you press the brake pedal.
Don’t let this be you. Have your brakes inspected by Rackley’s Performance and Auto!

Yes, without regular maintenance we can’t keep our car in a good driving condition. Well, brake maintenance is also one kind of maintenance procedure which should be given top priority. Because it not only keeps the car in its prime shape, but also gives us safety while driving the vehicle. Preferably it should be checked at least once before each drive. But the truth is when a driver is going to check his car on his own, he usually gives little attention to his brakes. I think it should not be. Because a small failure in brake system can ruin our, our beloved ones and other trespasser’s lives on the road. Hence, we should inspect it thoroughly either by our own or taking the help of a specialist, just to make sure it is in a good working condition.

Amanda. thanks for your comment about how a professional should take a look at your brakes annually. I like how you said that having quality brakes can prevent your car from failing when you’re trying to stop it. My husband is looking into these parts for his antique car to make sure that it doesn’t fail him even in his older car.

It’s interesting to learn that brake systems can only be inspected by qualified technicians. Which is quite reassuring since they can make sure that the brakes are working well. I’d be sure to have my brakes to regularly checked and maintained by professionals in auto services. It’s always better to be safe than to be sorry later on. Thanks for the interesting read on what we need to learn to keep our brakes functioning!

I liked that you mentioned how it’s a possible issue if one is to find their tire rims to bee much dirtier than the others since it can be a sign of excessive brake dust. Interestingly, I did notice ours be quite dirty a number of times. I should ask my husband to bring it to an auto service then since I would hate for our children to ride on a potentially brakeless car. I’ve seen too many movies to know that it’s dangerous. Thanks for the easy to understand read on brakes!

These are some great brake tips. I like how you said that dirty car rims could indicate a lot of brake dust. My front left tire is always dirty, so maybe I need to have that brake system checked out! Thanks for the help.

I had no idea that brake fluid should be flushed once or twice a year in order to keep the entire braking system of a car running properly. I have always known that brake pads and other aspects of the system should be checked, but I didn’t even think about that aspect! In my opinion, it’s always a good idea to have a pre-winter maintenance check on cars, so I’ll have to add brake fluid flushing to my routine!

Nicely written and informative article. Break plays a very important role when we consider our safety. So it needed to be put on the top of your car maintenance list and maintained regularly. If your brake system is making some loud grinding sound when you are applying break, then take your car to the nearest trusted repair center for repairing, as damaged breaking system can give you some very bad experience in your life, even it may cost your life. So maintenance of the braking system is necessary at a regular interval. If your steering wheel is shaking or your whole car is shaking when you are applying break, then it could occur due to damaged breaking system.

I’ve been noticing a squealing sound on my old BMW which I haven’t given much attention until yesterday as I’ve noticed a greatly reduced performance of my brake’s abilities. That is why I’m alarmed to have learned that loud noises in one’s brakes are a clear indication of the vehicle needing a visit to the professional mechanics. I’d be sure to have my automotive be towed to the nearest reliable mechanics that could help me tune my car into shape before any accidents happen to me. Thanks!

Recently, I’ve had to opportunity to practice driving my dad’s car. He did not only let me practice my skills, but he also taught me how to check the fluids and the engine. It’s interesting how important the brake fluid is and that it should be flushed out every one or two years since it shouldn’t have debris in it. Thanks for the useful information!
